Estimation of Scots pine bark biomass delivered to the wood industry in Northern Germany

چکیده

Abstract Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.) is the most widely distributed species in world. In Germany, as many other European countries, it a very important both culturally and economically. Few studies have focused on bark volumes being delivered to wood industry together with roundwood, potentially valuable resource for material or energetic utilization. Therefore, logs from six different forest sites were collected variables including double thickness (DBT) three categories, diameter, damage (as degree of miss-DBT) missing bark) measured analyzed order model volume (V ) mass (M ). The correlation analysis using Pearson’s method showed that highest coefficients observed between DBT V , well M . Also, results demonstrated greater than 20 mm, percentage exceeded 20%. Finally, linear regression models recommended predict Mbark based variables. this study can be used industries e.g. truckloads roundwood stacks.

Natural Regeneration of Scots Pine and Norway Spruce Close to the Timberline in Northern Finland

Two different datasets were analyzed in order to clarify the factors that affect regeneration success of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway spruce (Picea abies) in the climatically extreme areas in northern Finland. First, pine seed maturity and the number of cones in the trees were investigated at five pairs of study sites during the period 1997–2003. Secondly, the rate of seedling estab...

Fine root biomass and production in Scots pine stands in relation to stand age.

We determined fine root biomass and production of 15-, 35- and 100-year-old Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) stands during three growing seasons. Fine roots were sampled by the soil core method. Mean (+/- SE) annual fine root biomass of Scots pine in the 15-, 35- and 100-year-old stands was 220 +/- 25, 357 +/- 21 and 259 +/- 26 g m(-2), respectively. Fine root biomass of the understory vegetati...

Linking increasing drought stress to Scots pine mortality and bark beetle infestations.

In the dry Swiss Rhone Valley, Scots pine forests have experienced increased mortality in recent years. It has commonly been assumed that drought events and bark beetles fostered the decline, however, whether bark beetle outbreaks increased in recent years and whether they can be linked to drought stress or increasing temperature has never been studied. In our study, we correlated time series o...
